Record quarterly sales figures have allowed Apple iPhone to become a leader in the U.S. smartphone market, slightly ahead of competing devices based operating system, Google Android, Reuters reported with reference to research company Kantar Worldpanel ComTech.According to statistics from the company, in the fourth quarter of 2011, the share of iPhone in the U.S. market was 44.9%, which is twice more than a year ago. Android-smartphone share in the period stood at 44.8% a year earlier smartphones are controlled by exactly half of the market.

According to official figures, which ended December 31, 2011 the first quarter of this fiscal year, Apple sold 37.04 million iPhone, which was a new record, nearly twice surpassing the previous best figure.The key for the reporting period began selling the new smartphone iPhone 4S, which entered the U.S. market and a number of countries on October 14.
